When something goes wrong in a family or a business, the difference between a difficult chapter and a devastating one often comes down to one thing: whether the right protection was put in place beforehand. That is Chloe Arthur’s world. As Head of Risk at Lifecover Australia, Chloe has spent more than 22 years helping Australian families and business owners make sure that when life takes an unexpected turn, the financial foundations they have built don’t fall away with it.
We’re pleased to introduce Chloe as part of the Pride Advice community, and to share a little about who she is, the clients she works with, and why she does what she does.
Twenty-two years in risk advice
Chloe’s career in life insurance and risk advice spans more than two decades. She began as a licensed adviser building a risk practice with David Hare an early mentor whose standards continue to shape her approach today.
From there she broadened her experience across every side of the industry: working with a major insurer on the product, underwriting and claims side, leading risk advice teams, and being recognised as Rising Star of the Year for risk advisers within her dealer group. That combination of frontline advice and behind-the-scenes claims and underwriting knowledge is unusual, and it is exactly what allows Chloe to tell clients not just what a policy says, but whether it will actually work when it matters most.
The clients Chloe works with
Chloe specialises in clients whose circumstances are more complex than an off-the-shelf policy can handle. Her work centres on three groups:
High net worth and agribusiness families – including farming families and rural businesses, where protecting the people who run the operation is central to protecting the enterprise itself.
Medical, legal and professional clients – doctors, dentists, lawyers and barristers whose income and expertise are the engine of everything they’ve built.
Business owners – people in business together who need certainty about what happens to ownership and continuity if one of them were to die or become seriously ill or disabled.
Chloe has a particular understanding of the challenges facing rural and regional families. When serious illness strikes on the land, the impact reaches well beyond the medical: access to care is limited, families often have to relocate to be near treatment, and there is a direct effect on the farm, the household and the children. These are the real-world consequences Chloe helps clients plan for.
Advice built on trust, not transactions
Ask Chloe what sets her work apart and she won’t talk about products. She’ll talk about people.
“We aren’t about product, we’re about people – matching up what your family is actually going to go through. The real difference isn’t the advice; it’s getting it underwritten properly, and knowing that when you need it, it’s going to work.”
With a team currently managing dozens of active claims, Chloe sees firsthand what happens when protection is called upon – and how much it matters that it was set up correctly in the first place. Her clients value that she knows their family, their business, their financials and their history, and that she’s the person at the end of the phone when they call. As she puts it, protecting a family is about far more than a transaction.
It’s a conviction that runs deep. Having grown up without financial security and having faced her own health challenges, Chloe understands, personally, why this protection matters. It’s the reason she does the work she does.
